Sardinia Photography and Foodie Tour

They say that you know you are in Sardinia when you step off the plane and take in the sweet scent of the helichrysum in the air...
Take a journey with us into an Italy that has yet to be discovered, where you can experience a rawness in the land and an authentic culture as yet unaffected by tourism. Sardinia, an island set within the deep azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea, is an ancient land that boasts a wide range of experiences for travellers and photographers looking for something beyond the usual sight-seeing icons. Its ancient history dates back to the bronze-age, where a mysterious people built Nuraghe towers and fortresses; the remnants of which now lie scattered across the countryside. From its naval history come medieval fortress towns on the coast, where high bastions and trebuchets overlook the forever changing tides.

Inland, are stone villages set into the rugged valleys of the mountainous Barbagia region, peopled by shepherds who still live their lives to the rhythm of the land and its seasons. Culture and traditions here date back to an era beyond time, from the mysterious masked mamuthones of the mountains to the su fassoni of the southern lagoons, who fashion traditional boats with reeds. Fringed by the impossibly blue water of the Mediterranean, Sardinia boasts some of the most beautiful coastlines in which to explore.

Sardinia also offers visitors a taste of Italy that’s exclusive and unique, and this tour features a melting pot of photographic experiences and gastronomic delights. This tour combine our travel in Sardinia with plenty of opportunities to sample the food and wine that the island has to offer, whether you’re joining the shepherds for a hearty lunch in the mountains, or savouring fresh seafood on a sailing ship plying the blue waters of the La Maddalena Archipelago. You’ll sample the beautifully robust cannonau red wine, reputed to be the source of longevity for many Sards, who often live to over 100. And for those with a sweet tooth, there are local pastries to delight – from the crispy, crumbly seadas, drizzled with local honey from the strawberry flower, or the delicious post-dinner Mirto, a sweet, sharp liquor distilled from the berries of the Myrtle tree.

This tour is designed for photographers and travellers who yearn for something more than just the usual and expected, and who enjoy stimulating their eyes along with their taste buds. The itinerary has been carefully designed to offer a blend of photographic, travel and gastronomic experiences to give you a full and satisfying tour of authentic Sardinia and all that it has to offer. All accommodation on this tour has also been selected to give you an authentic Sardinian experience – where possible, we have chosen to stay in hotels and farm-stays that have character, charm and comfort.
